Master Pen: No1MC

"I may have started late but I'm gunning for first place"

Master Pen is all about the great emcees of our time coming to this platform and breaking down their incredible lyrics that keep the culture moving forward. No1MC out of Oceanside, CA embodies this purpose. No1MC was first on Global Money World with his song "Dulce" featuring Billy Nojokes and Indian K. A super lyrical track with all three emcees putting in work and with his latest release "Fall" we had to know more about the work that goes into this artist's process. No1MC was gracious enough to take time to break down the Master Pen behind "Fall". Below is the interview.

Who is No1MC the artist?

No1MC is a self reliant artist. I can produce, record, mix, master and design the cover. I learned how to do these things my self, sort of a jack of all trades. I try to make music that is impactful things like metaphors and rhyme schemes are still very much important to me even though I understand it’s not needed to be successful today’s climate of rap. For me my integrity is important so everything I write I hold to a high standard.

What inspired the lyrical approach to “Fall”?

I was instantly inspired when EQP sent me the beat, the bass was grimey so I knew I had to come hard on it. The verses were done first and I came back a few days after to write and lay the hook. The hook was real simple but got the overall message across.

In your opinion what is the bar you wrote that you knew would get people’s attention and break it down?

“Real shit don’t go viral!” I knew it would get attention because it mimics a Kendrick line from “Humble” but what I was saying with real shit don’t go viral is how in this social media driven world we live in a lot of wack rappers or rappers rapping about bullshit will get shine and go viral while the real MCs don’t get any light.

What do you think is the bar that people may sleep on listening to “Fall” and why?

“KILLAH on the mic you GHOST just FACE facts” that was sort of a double entendre. Killah on the mic as in I’m killing these other rappers but also giving a shout to one of my favorite rappers GhostFace Killah.

What would you rate your pen on “Fall” 1-10? 10 being the highest?

I would say an 8, I feel I did my thing in the verse but the hook wasn’t bad but hooks have never been my strong suit but I’m working on building that skill up.

What can people expect next from No1MC?

More music and more videos are definitely on the way. A lot more singles in the near future, some self produce and some produced by EQP. And slowly putting together a full length album together.
