There's more music than ever present day, which means there's a plethora of artists making great music. With all the artists out there, some people just have that special thing that make them stand out. Stormi Clark has that special thing and its very evident in his new song "Welcome to Cloud Gang". Since hearing the song we wanted to lean more about the artist and he was gracious enough to take time to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview, Welcome to Cloud Gang.

Who is Stormi Clark the artist?

If I had to answer who Stormi Clark was, I would probably say that I'm ambitious towards being different. I definitely don't want to have a sound that's like someone else nor do I want to follow someone else's path. One thing I cannot stand is a formality - so when things require you to dress fancy or wear something everybody else is wearing I wig out. I love wearing and doing things that might make someone judge me or send hate towards me. I really love is lightning bolts and anything relative to weather. When I was growing up, I would always go sit out in the rocking chair at my parents' house to watch the thunderstorms no matter how violent. Even during whatever was left of a hurricane I just wanted to be outside to experience it. I would just say I'm an outgoing, fun-loving, but sometimes emotional as hell dude that is trying to make the most out of life.

What are some of the influences for your unique style?

If I had to pick some things that influence my style I would definitely say people like Tyler The Creator, Danny Duncan, Brockhampton, and what was Michael Jackson's fashion sense. I love flashy things - but not like the brand name, just add glitter or crystals to it. As far as the style for my music, I am very selective with the tracks I decide to rap on.

The sound of a beat has to be a sound that "takes me somewhere" - I want the beat to give me an emotion, a sense of nostalgia, etc... I have literally had a producer show me samples and I had to stop to say something like "yo this beat really brings me to Jurassic Park - I'm getting all kinds of nostalgia" - call it weird if you want, haha, that's just how music itself inspires me.

If I'm being totally honest, seeing some of the new directions for hip hop was also a big inspiration for me to want to get in the game and develop my own style... I had always been a poet but needed a modern way to express my art, experiences, or feelings and hip-hop was the outlet I was drawn into (Since I've been listening to the genre ever since I was in middle school back in 2009 or so). So I wanted to be a very lyrical artist like Tyler, The Creator, Logic, NF, or Eminem - I just love rap that tells stories.

What was your approach when creating your new song “Welcome to Cloud Gang”?

When I was creating Welcome To Cloud Gang I wanted to make a track that would IMMEDIATELY catch people off guard. The production comes in and it has a very old school sound... people may see my appearance as an artist and think "damn, this little kid is about to go on something like that, huh" and it has a craaaazy transition where I just immediately went hard on the trap-type verse sound. The song concept itself is a statement though, I was seeing all sorts of Instagram models being fake with their followers - promoting products for a quick buck, never replying to comments or DMs (which I try to do as much as I can on the regular) but some of these influencers would just totally ignore their follower base and cash out cause they were there. Cloud Gang is supposed to be a group of people that want the best for each other and can vibe out with either me or my music. As I said, I love weather and stuff like that and so relating all my fans to something like clouds just felt perfect. So if you rock cloud gang, you're up in the clouds above all the bulls*** - haha.

How does it feel now that “Welcome to Cloud Gang” is out to the people?

Now that the track is out to the people I feel like all the Clouds have a song they can use to celebrate being a part of something that I hope will be even greater. I really want Cloud Gang to change the narrative of what it means to be a person online... I also want my music to be a statement as well that anything is possible if you put your mind and grind to it. Welcome to Cloud Gang definitely accomplished the goal of surprising the hell out of anyone that listened to the Cirrus album because it set the stage for the rest of the project... so far everyone that hears it seems to vibe with it and I'm just happy that they're happy with it... songs are like children, so its nice to see them "graduate" in a sense and people can find a vibe to it or appreciate it.

What can people expect next from Stormi Clark?

People can expect a lot from me this year. I plan on releasing my sophomore album sometime at the end of the year but in between that I want to release a five-track EP called Hurricane. The idea for this EP is that it will be a listening experience as if you are passing through a hurricane. So like, 2 hard songs, a calm song like you're in the eye of the storm, and 2 more hard songs... I think it'll be a great project. I also hope to do some music videos for some of the tracks - I've got some electric ideas for those, on the real. As far as non-music stuff you'll definitely be seeing a lot of fun photoshoots with my photographers and some YouTube videos here and there talking about what I'm up to or just vlogging the antics I experience with my friends on the day-to-day. So if you're ready to experience this journey, hop on the Cloud Gang while the storm is still brewing! :)
